The aim of the conference is:

That the conference serves as a pilot for establishing the Arctic Conference – Workers of the North – covering Norway, Sweden and Finland broadly, and laying the groundwork for a People-of-the-North collaboration in a new era.
As organisers, we experience that the role of the trade union movement is rarely mentioned or recognised when major military, preparedness and climate strategies are drawn up – yet it is often workers and their municipalities that stand on the front line when crises strike.
We want to help trade unions themselves and actors in the North to see organised labour as a stakeholder in the regional challenges related to preparedness for climate crisis and adaptation, sovereignty enforcement and military build-up, pandemics, and broader societal development.
We will also emphasise how the conference theme and the organisers' mandate can address work related to the findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's report.
Any continuation of the conference will hopefully emerge from this first gathering.
